Classic French Apartment
A historic Beaux-Arts-style building in Pacific Heights houses this full-floor apartment for a Francophile client who deeply appreciates history, craftsmanship, and design. Purchased in 2018, the residence underwent an extensive remodel by Skurman Architects, which reconfigured the floor plan.
Christopher Roy traveled to Italy to oversee the fabrication of the stone floors, columns, and fireplaces, personally selecting the blocks and slabs. In Paris, he supervised the bronze entry door at Atelier Saint-Jacques and the paneled library by Féau et Cie. Foster Reeve executed the Stuc-Pierre plasterwork, and Stancil Studios developed the finishes.
At the same time, silk-covered walls in the main salon and primary bedroom provide an elegant backdrop for the client’s collection of antiques and furniture. Throughout, existing pieces were carefully edited, restored, and repurposed alongside furnishings sourced throughout Europe and custom upholstery, giving the interiors the character of a home assembled over time rather than all at once.
